The Quest for Monster Deer
Hunting deer is my favorite activity, period. The thrill of the stalk gets my blood pumping more than anything else in the world. My family has a strong tradition of shooting big deer. Every year is a challenge to harvest the biggest buck. I took this one in '09 on opening day of West River with my dad.
My grandfather, Gene, was the original deer slayer. He rattled up this monster whitetail 5 years ago in Hughes County, South Dakota. It was the last deer shot before he died in 2008. He was the ultimate outdoorsman. He trapped beaver for 35 years and claimed he'd "killed more beaver then anyone in the U.S." (around 8,000 he figured)

Right: My old pappy serving in the Army during the Korean War.
My sister Jamie and I took these two trophy bucks in 2010 while hunting in Stanley County, South Dakota. We are fortunate enough to have permission to hunt on longtime family friend's land--thanks Warren.
Two more wall-hangers in the trophy room at our home. My grandpa harvested the one on the left and my father shot the mule deer on the right.
Left: My sister and I shot these to whitetails on the same day.

Right: I took this nice whitetail ten minutes into the 2009 season out of a blind on my family farm.
...it's a family tradition...
